The Wonder drug of the 20th century ?
Aspirin is an analgesic, which means its primary function is to relieve pain.
It is used to treat mild to moderate pain, fever, and inflammatory conditions, such as
rheumatic fever, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. Because it prevents the
formation of blood clots, aspirin has also been shown to be effective in reducing the risk
of transient ischemic attacks (small strokes) and to have a protective effect against
heart attacks in men with angina (chest pain).
Because it is so common and so readily available, you may not think
of it as "real medicine." This is a common misconception; aspirin certainly is
"real medicine." If your doctor prescribes or recommends aspirin for your
condition, it is for a good reason.
