| Calculating a
BMI Definition
Your BMI is equal to your weight in kilograms divided by the square of
your height in meters.
Example
1) Assume your height is 5 feet and 3 inches, and that your weight is 150
pounds.
2) Your height in meters is : 5*0.306 + 3*0.025, or about
1.6 meters.
3) Your weight in kilograms is: 150*0.454, or 68 kg
4) Therefore, your BMI is equal to 68/(1.6*1.6), =
about 26.5.

Does your BMI put you at risk ? |
| The Body Mass Index (BMI)
uses your weight and height to determine your risk of weight-related health problems. Check your BMI now !
The U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health & Human
Services now recommend using the BMI instead of previous estimates based on weight alone,
or on weight/height tables.
The good range for a BMI
Typically, a BMI between 19 and 25 is
considered ideal. Depending on the gender, body build and amount of fat tissues, the ideal
range may be different
Nonetheless, if your BMI falls below 19 or
exceeds 25, you should consult your doctor before getting severe health problems. |

| The BMI
determines your sexual attractiveness, according to a study
published by British Researchers in the August 1998 issue of the medical Journal "The
Lancet". "...When
a man looks at a woman, he seems to assess her attractiveness largely on her body mass
index (BMI)."
In this study, women with a BMI close to 20 were consistently
found the most attractive. A BMI of 20 is usually associated with the notion of
"ideal weight". |
